A trip to Bali, Indonesia, just in time for Nyepi
Ogoh-ogoh one day, monkey activities the next day
Denis takes us on a wonderful travel journey to the destination island of Bali, Indonesia. While in Bali, Denis discovered the popular terraced rice paddies, the Uluwatu Temple on the ocean-side cliffs, the Hindu celebration of Nyepi, and even interacted with monkey’s in the Sacred Monkey Forest.
One of Denis’ tips was to experience the Nyepi celebration, observed every Balinese new year, and the wild and eccentric Ogoh-ogoh statues built for the day. The real entertainment, such as the Ogoh-ogoh statues and the massive ritual procession, comes on the eve of Nyepi, as the next day is reserved for extreme self-reflection, resulting in a complete closure of society for 24 hours.
Follow Denis’ advice and you’ll get to eat lunch with a monkey yourself! Where else can you do that?
