Architect Frank Lloyd Wright designs in the Midwest (Wisconsin, Illinois)

Tours from the inside and outside of the works of Wright

Nathalie again brings us another excellent distriKt guide that focuses on the designs and structures of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. His legacy is felt all over the United States, but arguably no more so than in the Midwest states of Wisconsin (his home state) and Illinois, the featured region of Nathalie’s distriKt. Complete your trip to the Midwest with the activity of discovering the unique architectural style that made Wright famous.

Part of what made Wright’s designs so visually appealing was the attention to detail with which he paid for each design, as well as the ingenious integration of the natural surroundings to each project. Nathalie catches both of these in her photos, beautifully illustrating why Wright’s buildings make for a travel destination. The best time of year to go is between May and September, once the Midwest winter has thawed away.

Thanks in part to her mydistriKt International Press Card, Nathalie was invited by the Frank Lloyd Preservation Trust for a special tour of the Rookery, the interior of which was designed by Wright, in Chicago, Illinois. With this tour of a Wright construction, as well as a few more, under her belt, Nathalie has all of the inside information and tips you’d want to truly make visiting a Wright building an experience.
